The river and sea, and the hills and fields that surround Gillean House, all abound with wildlife.

Seals are often to be seen and, whilst more elusive, otters to are nearby. Deer frequent the nearby hills, as evidenced by the occasional visit even into the garden on a summer’s evening, and roaring sometimes to be heard during the autumn rut!

For ornithologists, both the white-tailed sea-eagles that now inhabit the nearby island of Rhum, can be seen in the bay, as well as the golden eagles which nest in the inland hills – if you are patient and lucky enough!
